SHARING KNOWLEDGE AND CELEBRATING THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF WOMEN IN FINANCE

We are excited to welcome you to the Women in Finance Virtual Summit - Canada

Global financial markets have faced significant declines and high volatility over the last few months, amid worries about COVID-19. Lifestyle impacts, changing consumer behaviours and concerns over supply chain disruption have had a telling negative effect on the Canadian and global economy. (Sanjay Sharma, 2020). The pandemic has also impacted female professionals with jobs lost and women taking on more unpaid work than they already were for their kids as well as their elders.

It's been a difficult year, but in our efforts to overcome the challenges the pandemic has brought, we cannot lose sight of some of the biggest areas of opportunities for organisations - FinTech, socially responsible investing (SRI) and diversity, equity and inclusion. We need to remain focused on our mission and continue proving that full and equal participation of women and diverse groups in the economy is not just the right thing to do; it's also good for the bottom line. This is clear and supported by the Government of Canada (2020) as studies show that by advancing gender equality and women's participation in the economy, Canada could add up to $150 billion in GDP.

It is promising to see that in Canada, finance and insurance rank second among the industries with the highest percentage of women board directors in the Financial Post 500, with 33.1% in 2018 (The Conference Board of Canada, Annual Report Card, 2018). In 2020, 39% of board directors at Canada’s six largest banks were women (Canada Bankers Association, 2020). We can certainly see progress and we need to keep moving in the right direction.

This year's virtual summit will facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration and networking that will focus on the themes mentioned above. With the help and support of our expert speakers, we will address what is essential for economic recovery; how can we invest responsibly; where FinTech’s can offer support and solutions; how we can be agile leaders and better support our teams; and how we can come together for truly equal opportunities for all people/groups.

The need for change in financial services has only been heightened due to the pandemic – professionals need to be more involved in setting examples and establishing the right company cultures and processes NOW. Join us for actionable tips on how to help with day-to-day struggles, thinking ahead, supporting your teams better, and presenting yourself as the role model in the industry.

We'll see you in October!
